Dreamy Contemporary Pop submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2019, 11:17pm This album is characterized first and foremost by Halsey’s smoky vocal style, which is heavily processed to create a dreamlike feel over more standard pop beats and grooves. These songs are at once completely in step with contemporary pop radio and also set somewhat apart from it, with slightly more nuance to them. I found this music to be compelling and undemanding, easy to enjoy on its own terms and completely satisfying; it’s everything pop should be, without catchy hooks to drive instant effortless attention. Halsey offers something just outside of the mainstream here, and it’s nice.
