Instant Nostalgia's Gonna Get Ya submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2021, 12:43pm Kacey Musgraves channels the 1950s-1960s Christmas canon throughout this album, through both her song selection and her musical style. The simple instrumentation can make the tracks blend together, but together they evoke a certain classic pop charm that has (for better or worse) come to define holiday music. This back-to-basics approach creates instant nostalgia, and the new compositions fit right alongside their classic companions, even when the lyrical content is decidedly modern (looking at you, “A Willie Nice Christmas”). The album will satisfy fans of holiday music who enjoy the classics but want a slight twist on the same songs that get (over)played year after year. It’s a simple formula, but Musgraves makes the most of it here.
