COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Perfect summer fare submitted by mjanen on August 12, 2014, 6:38pm Light weight and predictable, but throughly fun mystery. Shows life growing up in NYC and teenagers taking on adulthood or at least growing up.

mostly enjoyable submitted by camelsamba on June 17, 2016, 10:31pm The story was mostly enjoyable - decent plot, interesting puzzles / clues that the girls have to solve, realistic relationships. However, I'm not sure if it was the reader of the audiobook or the text itself, but Sophie especially comes off as way too snarky at times. Also, do 7th graders really drink that much coffee? (These kids don't act like the 7th graders in my family, although I will admit that my 3 are all boys and we don't live in NYC! They all have been relatively free range at that point, but nowhere near so sophisticated!)

Things that were specifically problematic with the BOCD:
- the snarkiness (as mentioned above)
- some of those clues must need to be seen because they just don't make sense when read
- many times I couldn't tell if Sophie was making an aside or talking to another character, and this was somewhat detrimental to my understanding

Note that I'm currently listening to the 2nd book because I'd already checked it out, so these drawbacks weren't enough to put me off entirely!
