Christian Alt-Rock submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2023, 10:55pm This album blends hard-hitting alt-rock with Christian lyrical themes in a way that is actually fairly convincing most of the time, as long as the band sticks with metaphors and doesn’t speak too literally; some of the tracks become a bit heavy-handed, even for a genre not usually known for its subtlety. Most of the songs are built around memorable riffs that wouldn’t feel out of place on a secular record and several of the songs utilize both male and female vocals to give the songs an almost ethereal feeling at times. Skillet has legitimate musical talent and this album has enough ambiguity to it that you don’t have to be a believing Christian to enjoy it (although make no mistake, religion is very much present here).
