COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Entertaining submitted by Amber Kinder on June 15, 2013, 11:35am They did a good job adapting the book into this movie. Also a great casting job.

Funny and Sad submitted by krayla on June 23, 2013, 7:58am I have not read the book yet, so I didn't really know what to expect. Although a lot of the movie is inevitably sad when touching on themes like death, separation, and loneliness, most of it is absolutely hilarious. I really loved the fact that the main characters are believable and real.

Great Picture submitted by 23lisq on June 29, 2013, 8:48pm I really enjoyed this movie. Touched on some interesting themes like identity and love.

Beautiful submitted by crazypockets on July 24, 2013, 1:17pm Like krayla, I hadn't read the book either and didn't know what to expect. But I wound up loving it and seeing it several times. I would watch it again, too. The acting was phenomenal. I didn't really have an opinion on Bradley Cooper either way before seeing this, but he's definitely earned my respect. The scenes where he's in the middle of his mania were really hard to watch because they were so heartbreaking, but it really did help me better understand people who are dealing with those illnesses. This movie was great in showing that everyone can find someone to love them no matter what they might be going through.

OK submitted by LVDS on July 26, 2013, 7:20am Didn't read the book, but sweet love story and realistic struggle with mental illness.

depressing.. submitted by bookher on August 1, 2013, 12:21pm It ends nicely but was so depressing getting to that point. Don't watch this if you're in the mood for comedy or something light.

Four stars submitted by jjdijkstra81 on August 23, 2013, 4:55pm 4 out of 5 stars really is the perfect rating for this movie. Good movie. I'd watch it again, just to have someone else watch it who hasn't seen it. Wouldn't watch again just for myself. Really enjoyed the whole mental illness aspect of it, and there were many different levels of mental illnesses in the different characters. I really enjoyed that being in a movie. But I felt a little cheated at the end. Felt a bit cliche to me. Oh well. Good flick.

good submitted by manz on August 29, 2013, 12:07pm Good movie, but the book was better. The actors did a great job of capturing the intensity of the characters. The book was very different than the film.

Awesome submitted by cowmooflage on July 24, 2014, 8:50am Acting is great. The characters are interesting and produce some great dialogue surrounding mental health. Serious but still very silly at times

Quirky and humorous submitted by samanthar on June 18, 2015, 10:40pm Quirky and humorous, while highlighting the individual flaws that everyone has. This movie was entertaining and enjoyable.

Great Acting, Good Story submitted by Meginator on July 7, 2017, 6:41am What sets this film apart is the performances of, and chemistry between, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. So much relies on them and both excel in their roles. While this isn't a perfect depiction of mental illness, the story is important and the script treats the characters with respect and fleshes them out beyond these particular issues. This is a very well-made film and a pleasant surprise.

The psychology: :D submitted by lisa on August 14, 2018, 2:17pm Okay it's not quite as good as the science oven movie.

Sad submitted by c_zhang on June 28, 2019, 11:58pm It ends nicely but was so depressing getting to that point. Don't watch this if you're in the mood for comedy or something light.

bittersweet submitted by yufamily on August 23, 2019, 8:07pm It's not easy to watch but the plot is excellent
