A lowly computer geek working for a secret British intelligence agency gets promoted to field service after accidentally saving lives in a disaster. Now he's faced with saving the universe using only his smarts and a disembodied hand that renders him invisible. Stross' award-winning novella, "The concrete jungle," is also included.
Narrated by George K. Wilson.

The story begins submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 15, 2019, 1:55pm "The Atrocity Archive" is the first book in Charles Stross' "Laundry Files" fantasy/sci-fi novel series. Read it before you read any of the other books or you won't understand the sequels. This book introduces us to our protagonist for most of the sequels: Bob Howard, a bureaucrat at the British government's agency that deals with supernatural people, events and.... everything else that's weird. Bob Howard (not his real name, as he is basically living undercover) did not join the agency of his own volition. He was a computer scientist/mathematician who accidentally stumbled upon a spell made possible through a math equation as solved by a computer. The agency (code named the Laundry, because it's office used to be above a laundromat) made Bob a job offer he literally could not refuse. So, now he's stuck investigating strange phenomena, such as an occult organization trying to... do something terrible.
The book provides a compelling read and I have devoured almost every novel in this series.
