One All-Timer & a Bunch of Filler submitted by Meginator on June 28, 2023, 11:08pm This album is primarily a parade of serviceable tracks with one incredible standout (the timeless classic “Rock and Roll All Nite”) inexplicably placed at the end. While the songwriting is decent, the uneven and amateurish production quality doesn’t mesh well with the group’s ambitions or their style, which incorporates elements of pop to add a glittering edge to the hard rock at its core. The songs are quick and simple without any real depth either musically or lyrically, although the group clearly knows how to craft a catchy hook, and for the most part show more potential than actual accomplishment. In this context, “Rock and Roll All Nite” feels like a weird outlier both for its sheer quality and for its anthemic sound, which easily surpasses everything that comes before it. This is only really essential listening for KISS fans; most everyone else will be better off with a curated greatest hits compilation.
