first heavy metal album submitted by tisaallen on June 21, 2022, 11:27am The first album by Black Sabbath was recorded in 12 hours on a single day, mostly live in the studio. It’s not quite as excellent as the next three albums mostly due to the lackluster B side with some stretched out blues jams that don’t play to the band’s strengths. The A side (first 3 tracks) is strong and has the band’s sound pretty well formed.

Classic Psychedelic/Hard Rock Jams submitted by Meginator on June 14, 2023, 11:23am This album feels a bit tame by modern standards, but its mix of psychedelic and hard rock still feels transgressive even if it is no longer as shocking as it might have been when it was first released. The band moves away from the more traditional rock sound and into more experimental space both musically and lyrically, and while some of the jams may wander a bit they always come back to something interesting. This has a strange compelling quality to it that I can’t quite articulate, but it’s still easy to appreciate how this album represents a fundamental turning point in rock history, paving the way for the darker and harder genres yet to come.
