COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A Genre Introduction submitted by Meginator on July 9, 2017, 9:55pm I was unfamiliar with the skiffle genre prior to listening to this compilation, and I found it very interesting and enlightening. After three hours, you certainly get a feel for the genre's distinct elements, notably its fusion of bluegrass and traditional American folk elements with early rock and roll. It is particularly enlightening to hear these artists' versions of familiar songs, such as "If I Had a Hammer" and "When the Saints Go Marching In". I enjoyed this introduction to skiffle and now have a better understanding of how it influenced several major musicians who began making music soon after this era.
