Contemporary Pop Country submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 9:26pm I listened to this album to familiarize myself with Maren Morris before seeing her open for Niall Horan, and I was really surprised by how good it is. Though her main mode is mainstream-friendly country pop, Morris is comfortable slipping into tracks that have a bit more Southern twang to them, and her music is more closely related to traditional influences than that of many of her peers. This isn’t an album that reinvents the pop-country landscape, but it does represent the best that the genre is capable of; it’s pop country as it should be, balanced between two worlds and with broad appeal that, in the end, comes down to Morris’s considerable talent and impeccable natural instincts.
