Read it! submitted by thesrays on July 24, 2018, 1:36pm A story about a country cricket who's trapped in the city. He finds friendship in surprising places. I recommend this heart-warming tale.

Audio version is great submitted by Sara W on July 13, 2019, 7:24am I've loved this story since I was a kid, but the narration by Tony Shaloub makes this version really stand out. It's an old book with lots of dated details (it largely takes place in a newsstand) but they don't weigh it down at all. Shaloub does a good job with tricky characters (like avoiding dialect when portraying stereotypical Sai Fong, a character who lives in Chinatown). A great way to pass the time in the car.

The cricket in times square submitted by VanCancue on August 25, 2021, 4:57pm We play this on our long drive. Great listen. Love Tony Shaloub. It won the Newbery Honor in 1961.
