More Pop Than Country submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 8:26am This album is less of a country album than it is a pop album with country-inspired musical inflections and typical country-style lyrical content, but Keith Urban is naturally suited to this style and pulls it off without a (trailer) hitch. The tracks revolve around instantly catchy hooks and vocal performances that sell the storytelling in the lyrics; Urban clearly had a blast when recording this album and that feel-good spirit carries over to the listener as well. Some of the fluctuating musical styles occasionally compete with each other due to their placement, with pure dance-ready pop seemingly at odds with more country-fied ballads, but when taken individually the songs are strong and make good use of Urban’s many talents. Keith Urban has always incorporated pop into his music, and this album continues the trend while maintaining the charm he brings to all of his music.
