Adventure for everyone! submitted by cherylo on July 6, 2011, 8:42pm This is a charming movie, with excellent performances all around. Robert DeNiro's character alone makes this movie worth watching, but there's also an amazing voodoo-doll fight scene, great special effects, a charming hero, a dazzling heroine, and evil witches. If you liked The Princess Bride, you will love this movie.

Hollywood formula submitted by kathscot on July 30, 2012, 8:04am OK movie (agree good performances), but much better book - more complex characters and more interesting ending. Why must Hollywood change anything different to fit the formula?!

Stardust submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 30, 2013, 4:21pm Based on Neil Gaiman's book of the same name "Stardust" is a fantastic tale about a man who thinks he can force women do to his will and instead learns that love is more important. Everyone in the novel learns the error of trying to control others or hold power over them.
Tristran is the son of a human father, with whom he lives in the town of Wall, and a fairy princess who visited the town that borders on her lands. At the age of 18, Tristran tries to get the village beauty, Victoria, to marry him by promising to bring her a fallen star. He enters into the supernatural realm of Fairy and finds a fallen star personified and takes her prisoner. Of course, others are also trying to capture the star for the power they can get from her. Meanwhile, the Fairy king's sons are fighting each other to the death for the crown.
I highly recommend this very interesting movie, but read the book first. It is great, as are all of Gaiman's novels, and (as usual) better than the movie based upon it.
SPOILER ALERT: The movie has a positive depiction of a transgender individual.

Beautiful Fairy Tale submitted by crazypockets on August 15, 2013, 7:03pm This movie is based on Neil Gaiman doing what he does best: wonderful, modern fairy tales. I recently watched this movie again after a long time, and I was reminded of just how much I liked it. It would be great for children and adults; there are some really darkly funny moments in it, and the cameos are terrific to watch. It's silly and magical and everything you would expect of a very solid fairy tale. I haven't read the book before, but I will definitely pick it up now (preferably on CD, read by the master author himself!).

Love this movie! submitted by cbrewster on August 21, 2016, 8:37am I normally do not watch anything supernatural, but I just love this movie. Robert De Niro is hilarious

Just OK submitted by kimberlina on June 18, 2018, 10:08am Would not recommend for children under the age of 10. Some dark graphic scenes and themes.

Better than Princess Bride! submitted by Xris on June 19, 2018, 9:04pm In this one, the girl isn't helpless. And the makeup they do on the witches and ghosts is great! Recommended to those who loved the Princess Bride. :)

Book or movie? submitted by edb.blanchard on July 4, 2018, 7:52pm This is the only exception to the rule that "the book is better than the movie" Sorry Neil, but the pacing is too slow in the book and the characters are delightfully expanded upon in the movie!

Stardust submitted by lstorc on August 6, 2018, 4:52am A cult classic almost

For Fans of The Princess Bride submitted by SurfGrape on July 18, 2020, 4:49pm If you liked The Princess Bride, you'll like this movie too. It has it all: ghosts, witches, magic, sword fights, princes, and true love. It even has a sly commentary on toxic masculinity in the form of sky pirates. Yes, sky pirates! Watch it now. You won't be disappointed.

Great adpatation submitted by VanCancue on July 21, 2020, 12:58pm This movie did complete justice to the book with modifications and all.

One of my favorites submitted by lfmarcus on August 4, 2021, 12:00pm This is a movie I could watch over and over and not get tired of it. I especially loved Mark Strong's portrayal of Septimus, his last fight scenes are incredible and so creative!

Excellent Adaptation submitted by KatieD on August 21, 2021, 1:44pm I really enjoyed Neil Gaiman's novel and am very impressed with the quality of the film adaptation. I feel that all changes made are in the spirit of the novel and that they enhance the story. I agree with other reviews here that, if you enjoy The Princess Bride, you will enjoy this movie!
