COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Experimental Jazz That Grows on You submitted by Meginator on June 17, 2023, 11:47pm The tracks on this album fall on the experimental end of the jazz spectrum, but it is still fairly approachable for the average listener with the deep, solid bass and percussion grooves that anchor each track. The music has a completely unique feeling to it, largely from the inclusion of instruments such as the tamboura, which provides an underlying drone, and the harp, unusual in a jazz context but utilized to excellent effect here. Some of the solo sections sounded a bit unfocused to me, particularly with the saxophone, but as I got deeper into the album I began to appreciate its approach and its blend of American and Indian elements. This didn’t become a favorite of mine, but I’m glad that I kept with it after initially feeling alienated; it was definitely worth listening to and thinking about.
