When Sal's husband dies suddenly of a heart attack, Sal and her best friend, Tip try to find some fun among the knitting and cake-baking of The Ladies' Guild in the small West Country town of Clatterford St. Mary. The Guild members are certainly an eccentric bunch: leader Eileen, who takes her position--and chains--very seriously; cheese-mad Rose (or Margaret, depending on whether she's taken her medication); Delilah Stagg of the loose false teeth and orange tights; rock star mother Caroline who, when not horse riding or dining at Madonna's, is always on the lookout for somebody to do the school run; Queenie, a crossing guard in search of some traffic; and Kate, the local grievance group visitor, still wallowing in widowhood.
DVD, region 1, widescreen (16:9, enhanced) presentation; Dolby Digital stereo., DVD5, DVD9, NTSC.

Clatterford -- You Really Should Visit submitted by James C. Clark on February 3, 2008, 4:33pm Another sitcom from Jennifer Saunders (of Absolutely Fabulous fame) but without the mean-spirited hysteria. Dawn French and JoAnn Lumley join the cast, but everyone in this look into the lives of the women (mostly) of Clatterford does a great job. It is hilarious at times, at times bittersweet, but thouroughly enjoyable. Even on-duty librarians would laugh out loud at the outrageous plot twists, and so should you. But it won't happen if you don't watch it, so hit that reserve button now!

A great watch! submitted by saramcadory on July 20, 2016, 9:14pm Hilariously understated humor--highly recommend for anyone who can wait a bit to get the big joke. Jennifer Saunders' character is particularly hilarious in her small roles, but Sue Johnston (who also appears in Downton Abbey as the Dowager Countess' maid) is a wonderful main character and a joy to watch.
