This masterworks edition is a treasure submitted by rlsain on December 9, 2019, 11:01pm On the way to church, with a friend, we heard Tchaikovsky's Andante Cantabile In B Major on public radio ... and we both agreed that this was a compelling masterpiece. The AADL led me to this "masterworks edition" CD, a collection of Tchaikovsky's major works as well as the Andante and less well known compositions.
I grew up in the 1950's with Verdi's La Traviata, my dad's favorite opera. This led me to classical music and to Brahms with Beethoven, my roommate's preference.
In the background of my entree into classical music was Tchaikovsky's magic.
The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, his Piano and Violin Concertos, and Symphonies, for me, have always been soul wrenching.
All of this is captured in the masterworks edition of Tchaikovsky's work ... along with an opportunity to listen to Eugene Onegin ... and other soul-stirring compositions performed by hot-shots.
I'm not going to abandon Brahms ... however, for me, this masterworks edition has allowed me to listen to someone who's captured my soul.
