An All-Time Great Singer submitted by Meginator on June 22, 2023, 2:20pm This album captures so much of what makes Aretha Franklin such a compelling singer, fully showcasing her ability to hit a range of emotions and the blend of genres that makes her music stand apart. This particular group of songs focuses heavily on the bluesy elements of Aretha’s brand of soul, while still incorporating influences from pop, R&B, and gospel along the way. Every track is a standout, and the album has a great mix of tempos and styles that maintains a good sense of flow from song to song. While it doesn’t have her biggest songs on it, this is a well-rounded album that serves as a great introduction to Aretha Franklin’s genius, and it’s well worth listening through her catalog beyond her greatest hits to find the many, many gems.
