A good time... submitted by Kikumatsu97 on June 27, 2015, 10:56pm I can't compare the story of this film with its relation to the book, as I haven't read it, but if it is to be believed to be much like the literature of Anthony Trolope, I should very much like to read more by him. Not, by any means well received by critics of the time for its supposedly scandalous plot, ultimately I think it shows a great understanding of the frustrations of mental illness, and the crippling gossip of society in london as it pertained to personal lives, and prosperity. Also, I have seen that it exposes the plight that women must have suffered in that time, which seems to have been Trolope's focus as a burden in its reality. Although I understand that much if it's intention must have been comedic, I feel the main interest was in the sobering quality of relations between women and men of that generation being strenuous and trying at times. I did experience some humor as it was intended, but ultimately, the sadness shone itself more readily in this rendering of a great story, which in in truth could be compared to more modern writing, only better. Perhaps it is likely that Trolope's compassion for the subjects of both women and insanity were a tad before it's time. A lovely story, beautifully casted and well scripted.
