Loses Its Initial Momentum submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 9:04pm This album starts out strong with a nice groove, but the tracks gradually lose steam as it progresses, eventually settling into a bit of a stupor. The vibe is relaxed, incorporating a lot of references to 1980s music without sounding at all dated. Especially with the near-falsetto vocal style, the album is reminiscent of Death Cab for Cutie, but without the strong hooks or captivating lyrics. Hot Chip clearly has a lot of musical talent, but they can't seem to channel it for the duration of an album; in the end, it all runs together.
