Santa Claus is Coming to Town submitted by SBNB on August 4, 2015, 8:15pm This is a story of how Santa Claus came to be. Kris, an orphan baby, is adopted by toymakers way up north. He learns the trade and then finds unique ways to deliver toys to children in a town where toys have been banned. It's cute.

Great Santa Origin Story submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 10:08pm This classic Christmas special is a delightful origin story for several key parts of the modern (or at least midcentury) US version of Santa Claus, presented in choppy, rugged stop-motion animation that grounds the story’s fairytale structure and content in physical reality. The story comes together nicely, standing on its own despite the need to explain several aspects of the Santa legend, with a few unexpected wrinkles, including an origin story for Mrs. Jessica Claus. The morality is a bit overwrought and simplistic, but, like, this is a made-for-tv Christmas special made for children in 1970, so the fact that the moral arc is at all plausible within the context of the story is more of a minor miracle than a serious detriment. Having seen a few more of the Rankin and Bass specials for the first time recently (and as a jaded adult), I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one and I have a feeling I’ll return to it in future years.
