Very Traditional Bluegrass submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 9:02pm This album features bluegrass in its most traditional form, with Bill Monroe’s virtuoso mandolin at the forefront. Lyrically, the songs tend toward subjects such as a sense of place (usually Kentucky), lonesomeness and love, and Christian religious devotion. The recording quality isn’t always great, but the mandolin always comes through clearly. Musically, these songs don’t have a lot of variation, but they created the gold standard from which most other bluegrass styles have descended, which makes the album a must-listen for bluegrass fans even if its appeal is slightly out of date for many contemporary listeners.
