Electro-Experimental Rock submitted by Meginator on June 21, 2020, 3:06pm AWOLNation starts this album off strong and keeps on going, bringing an electro-experimental edge to alt-rock and doing something slightly different on every track while never losing sight of the whole. The dominating landscape is dark and heavy, yet never melancholy; that weight is a pulsing thing that propels the album forward, driven in part by bursts of innovation and choruses straight out of pop radio playing against that dark background. Rhythms are incredibly important to the feel of this music, with some experimentation taking place in unexpected locales such as the vocals. As a whole, “Run” is a combination of indie, electronic, and alt-rock genres that comes together quite nicely, sounding comfortably familiar, yet unique.
