A Glimpse Into the Past submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 7:03pm The track selection here could not be more traditional, drawing predominately as it does from folk traditions predating the 20th century, but the group’s historical approach to musical arrangements and vocal styles make this album stand out from most of the established holiday canon. The instrumentation, chord progressions, and vocal styles can seem unusual from a modern perspective, but in hearkening back to these carols’ roots the group breathes new (old?) life into these songs, with the liner notes providing interesting historical context. This is an excellent choice for listeners looking for early carols, or simply for a holiday album that does something slightly different with familiar fare.
