A Striking Take on an Oft-Told Story submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 6:49pm Though this film does contain some fictional elements, it is notable for its attempt to accurately represent the Titanic’s final night as experienced by passengers from all three classes and members of the ship’s crew. The ensemble focus can make it difficult at times to follow individual stories, particularly as many of the actors are dressed alike and look similar, but the film also avoids excessive melodrama and presents itself as a more or less factual telling of events. The effect is striking, particularly as most viewers will have some idea of what is on the horizon as the ship slowly succumbs to the frozen North Atlantic waters. With convincing special effects and a commitment to documented history (although some accounts of the sinking do contradict each other, and the film notably does not show the ship breaking in half), this film stands up to the test of time as a gripping account of that horrible night.
