COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Unabridged advantages submitted by RG Reader on June 23, 2016, 4:20pm If you only read the abridged version of the book Les Miserables, you will miss a lot. So much more background information and details are available in this unabridged version of the book. Some of the details, admittedly, are boring details of battle scenes, which I had trouble following, but listened without skipping anyway, in the hopes of maybe absorbing some French history. Also, I was afraid to miss something relevant to the story if I jumped ahead. But there are also excursions into the personalities and especially motivations of the individual characters, which helps me understand them better. The unabridged edition adds descriptive detail of every topic and character as they are introduced. It is beautiful writing with a rich vocabulary. Sadly, many modern writers cater to the short attention spans of (some) readers by leaving out these types of details and focusing on the "action." This unabridged book makes me want to read more by Victor Hugo. I have enjoyed listening to Frederick Davidson reading the different characters' voices - he is talented. I never would have gotten through the unabridged version of the (paper) book on my own...
Audiobook is the way submitted by azaitzeff on August 31, 2019, 10:08pm If you are going unabridged, do it by audiobook. It is very calming. Just know you are going to get a lot of extra detail.
