Boy Band Pop Punk submitted by Meginator on July 31, 2019, 12:04am I’m not sure that I expected a pop-punk revival to emerge quite in this form, but 5 Seconds of Summer are better at their craft than you might expect. Leaning more heavily toward the pop end of the spectrum, these songs have a slight edge to them that still meshes with the fairly typical lovelorn lyrics; the band fits right in the middle of pop and punk and the position suits them well. With its huge catchy hooks and other evidence of genuine musical talent, this album is surprisingly convincing and, at the very least, it is a reasonably successful successor to the heydays of both boy bands and pop-punk groups. Don’t write 5SOS off on their reputation alone; this one’s worth your consideration.
