Unfortunate Events without the satire submitted by cherylo on July 8, 2012, 9:35am The series reminds me strongly of A Series of Unfortunate Events but without the full-bore absurdity and with a gentler resolution. The plot features a trio of near-orphans caught up in events put in to motion long before their birth, and featuring fairy tale tropes including the gingerbread house, menacing wolves, and the pied piper legends. There are villainous threats, poor choices, happenstance, treacherous terrain to traverse, and even a forced marriage in the works. It also features just about the most neglectful parents in fantasy literature period.
