A Warning... submitted by crankycrack on June 22, 2016, 8:37am Often, in the genre of country music, something will be labeled country only to be some pop lite country hybrid (concocted in a soulless fashion) with a accompaniment that would sound more familiar in the waiting room of a dentist's office or elevator. If that is your type of country music than I have two points to make: 1-I'm sorry, and 2-This album is not for you.

Beyond all of the above this a wonderful album with gorgeous musical arrangements. I'm not saying that Simpson sounds like Waylon Jennings but there will be a few moments in listening to this album where his sound will evoke memories of Waylon; that is if you are familiar with him. Enjoy!

Terrible Title, Decent Album submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 4:55pm Despite the album’s title, this album doesn’t really feel like it’s pushing the genre forward; to me, it feels more like a return to country’s roots, making the title perhaps a deliberate exercise in misguided irony. Simpson’s voice is well-suited to the slower, deep kind of country music that characterizes most of these tracks, and his cover of “The Promise” is excellent, lending the song a new kind of moodiness. Don’t be put off by the title here: it’s pretentious, but the music isn’t.
