A Christmas Carol submitted by SBNB on August 4, 2015, 8:13pm This version is a quick one, only 90 minutes. It didn't stick to the original story as well as others have, but it was nice to see something a little different for a change. Scrooge was rather creepy at the end of the Christmas Present episode, but other than that, it was good.

A Good Scrooge, a So-So Script submitted by Meginator on June 12, 2021, 9:48am Reginald Owen makes for a fine Ebenezer Scrooge in both his grumpy and reformed states, but the script just doesn’t justify his moral redemption. All of the familiar story beats pass by (with an increased emphasis on Fred that offers an interesting alternate perspective), but the film doesn’t quite get its characters effectively from point a to point b: Bob Cratchit is an afterthought, Tiny Tim is more annoying than adorable (or innocent), and Scrooge is transformed, as ever, but the audience doesn’t come to understand when or why this occurs. Because this is the emotional hinge on which the entire story turns, the film is ultimately unsatisfying even if its costumes and sets are quite well done (especially for the era). It’s worth watching for a different spin on this oft-told tale, but aside from Owen’s standout performance the film doesn’t really distinguish itself from better, more emotionally effective portrayals of Scrooge’s resurrection.

classic, yeah submitted by lisa on August 4, 2022, 4:28pm The review by Meginator is better than anything I'd write here. Check it out!

The oldest (1938, 85 years old now) CC movie I have ever seen. Did not lose its bite with time at all. submitted by Tassos on November 28, 2023, 8:59am Good movie. Enjoy. Meginator takes it too god damned seriously, Lisa. It is just a little fairy morality tale with elements of actual hard life in Capitalist England of the 1800s.
