Life is depressing.... submitted by Pumpkinscones on June 25, 2013, 3:04pm The tales in these volumes are all loosely (or not so loosely) interconnected, centering around the second generation of criminals to frequent a bar known as 'The Undertow'. Reading them all and having little pieces of the past and big picture fall into place is a big part of the appeal. The dark muted tones and drawing style all reflect on the essential hopelessness of the characters and their situation. These volumes hold some of my favorite panels of all time, mostly the deeply emotive facial close-up shots.
