Boy Band Pop Punk submitted by Meginator on July 23, 2019, 10:45pm This EP features 5SOS’s breakout track “She Looks So Perfect” and three others that, together, encapsulate their updated, boy-band inspired riff on pop-punk pretty well. The lyrics may be somewhat pedestrian, but they suit the band’s style perfectly, fitting in rhythmically into anthemic choruses and verses that are enough of a departure from the typical pop-punk sound to feel fresh years after the genre’s heyday. The EP is missing a proper ballad, but it showcases the band’s genuine songwriting talent; these are catchy songs, well-written and performed with the type of gusto that only young adults can deliver, and it’s a mistake to write 5SOS off as just another flash in the pan.
