Not Up to His Usual Standard submitted by Meginator on June 26, 2019, 10:58pm I’m usually a huge fan of Skrillex, and his collaborations with other EDM producers often yield wonderfully inventive results (see Jack Ü for a prime example), but this album left me with the impression that he has perhaps sacrificed too much of his own signature sound in the process. Dubstep does require constant innovation to avoid getting mired in its more iconic tropes, but these tracks lack much of the genre’s typical hard edge and aggression, adding to a general lack of cohesion throughout the album. Depressingly tame, these songs are fine, but Skrillex is capable of so much more.
