A New Direction submitted by Meginator on July 15, 2023, 11:10pm While most of this album consists of the same kind of ballads and other boy-band staples that characterized their first couple of releases, a few tracks do move into slightly heavier versions of pop music (but not, alas, deeper thematic content). The songs are catchy and fun, and despite the fact that the cracks in the façads do begin to show a bit when you are looking for them, this is a generally cheerful effort with a few true gems. "Best Song Ever" may be the group's most interesting full-blown happy single and "Through the Dark" is my favorite of anything they ever recorded. This may not match other albuks pound for pound, but it's difficult to argue against the power of a top pop group performing at their peak.
