The Triumphant Return of Britney Spears submitted by Meginator on August 26, 2020, 4:31pm While this installment of Now That’s What I Call Music doesn’t quite have the lasting impact of its immediate predecessor, any album that features a triumphant return of Britney Spears (“Work B****”) is a winner in my book. These tracks were all hits and they all point to a particular transitional period as pop music started to go increasingly all-in on electronic instrumentation. Yet Lorde (“Royals”), One Direction (“Story of My Life”), and *checks notes* Miley Cyrus (“Wrecking Ball”) offer acoustic jams for a bit of balance. This album is a very small step down from Now That’s What I Call Music 48, but most of these tracks are still iconic and have rightfully stood the test of time.
