Muddy Waters

I lived in Memphis TN just about the years when Muddy Waters began playing with young white blues musicians of the time, like Paul Butterfield’s blues harmonica and Mike Bloomfield on guitar. Waters managed a huge crossover from all-black audiences to white fans. In Memphis around the time of this album, he played an outdoor set on a portable wood stage on Main Street, locals backing him up. He played all these songs and I got right up to the edge of the stage and leaned on it. I could feel the wood shaking like it was going to give out.
It was a new experience for white people who’d never gone to black clubs. But it was just the beginning!
