COMMUNITY REVIEWS

an eraser of love submitted by answer-beat on March 19, 2022, 2:35am This album is important and most fans seem to regard it as their classic, but I actually think it hasn't aged as well as their other '90s releases. The vocals are more upfront than in some of their later albums, and they stand out, probably in a way that makes them more accessible to people not normally interested in techno, but to me they don't often fit as well with the music. Some of the samples (the robo-voices, etc.) and beats sound kind of dated to my ears. Also "Cowgirl" is closely related to the non-album single "Rez" which is the better song, just like "Dark Train" is superior to "Dark & Long". Really it's just personal preference, I can see why this album means a lot to people, and no doubt it was revolutionary when it first came out. I was 11 then and I'm American, so I didn't hear them until a few years later, when "Born Slippy (NUXX)" blew up and "Pearls Girl" was on MTV's AMP. In retrospect I actually think Beaucoup Fish is their best studio album. Still, if you're new to techno and want a crash course on all the big artists/albums, this is required listening.
