COMMUNITY REVIEWS

my beloved diskworld submitted by ferdoble on August 11, 2011, 3:49pm To describe Terry Pratchett’s books is a difficult thing to do. The disc world series is in a word fantastic. Terry Pratchett, would seem to use the disk world, to take any theme, or know story and then twist it in his own very humorous way. These are not always laugh out loud funny (sometimes they are), bur rather the sort of funny that just sort of lifts your spirits a little bit.

I will say that in some cases there isn’t always a really strong story, sometimes its just his characters moving through one of those twisted themes. I like them all, you may want to start with the Most Von Lipwig story line (“Going Postal” and then “making money”) as at least the first one has a really great story line.

I love to pepper my reading queue with these books to keep all those books that take themselves seriously fresh and interesting.

I recommend reading them ALL.

OR listening to them. The two main narrators of Terry Pratchett’s books are Stephen Briggs & Nigel Planer and they take Terry Pratchett’s phenomenal writing to a whole new level.

tiffany aching series submitted by jamullet on September 3, 2011, 8:33am I am a new fan of terry pratchett's - just stumbled upon this series a couple of months ago. This is probably my favorite book in the series, although the whole series is brilliant. I would reccomend it to anyone.

Further adventures of Tiffany Aching submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 11, 2012, 7:14pm "Wintersmith," the third Tiffany Aching novels, part of Sir Terry Pratchett's larger and much beloved Discworld series, takes a darker turn than the previous books in this young adult series. While I continue to highly recommend these books, parents and readers should note that this one would likely be rated PG-13 if books got ratings as movies do.
Tiffany is a young teen who continues her magical training and attempts to keep the mischief-making Nac Mac Feegles, who are small, blue pictsies (as they call themselves, not pixies) out of too much trouble.
We meet some characters from other Discworld books, including Granny Weatherwax. Those who have read "Equal Rites" and "Wyrd Sisters" will have a better understanding of what the Discworld is in general and who the witches in particular are, and so will better appreciate the Tiffany Aching books. After this novel, we continue Tiffany's adventures in "I Shall Wear Midnight."
Unlike some Young Adult fantasy novels, the Tiffany Aching books feature a strong, independent teenage woman who does not fall in love or base her life's decisions on what some man thinks is best for her.

discworld submitted by unknown on August 10, 2013, 10:28pm In this, the third Tiffany Aching book for young adults, Prachett continues the story and character development. The previous two books, "The Wee Free Man" and "A Hat Full of Sky", introduced us to Tiffany, a girl with the natural talent to be a witch, and the Nac Mac Feegle, small blue men who assist Tiffany in their own (often misguided) way.

Tiffany is almost 13, and faces all of the standard problems of adolescence. She has the additional problems of learning witching, which isn't about learning spells but rather learning about people and herself. Impetuously, she joins the Dark Morris dance, and the Wintersmith falls in love with her. The rest od the story is a reasonably standard adolescent story, written with the flair, insight, and humour that can only come from Pratchett.

Although this continues Tiffany's story, as well as the Discworld series, it isn't necessary to have read the previous books to understand the characters or their motivations. It stands comfortably on its own, but isn't repetitive if you are familiar with the previous books. Longtime Pratchett readers will be happy to learn more of Granny Weatherwax's formative years.

A fun follow up submitted by dlfredrickson on July 25, 2021, 3:23pm I love Tiffany Aching - she and Granny Weatherwax are 2 of my favorite Discworld characters. I re-read this book this summer as part of the Summer Games. And I love it as much as I did the first time. Great building to the climax. Sir Terry was a master storyteller.

LOVE THIS! submitted by lnschram on June 18, 2022, 11:46am I really love the Discworld books and Tiffany aching is definitely one of my favorite characters! Highly recommend!
