Pearl Jam's debut submitted by tisaallen on July 12, 2022, 11:59pm The first album by Pearl Jam is considered a cornerstone of the "grunge music era" but really is rooted in classic rock with anthemic songs buoyed by Vedder's transcendent singing and lots of kind of boring guitar solos by Mike McCready. "Black" holds up best 30 years later, but it's a solid album and continues to be PJ's most popular outing.

More Depth Than I Expected submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 7:28pm This classic album straddles the line between grunge and what would become more streamlined alt-rock. With songs anchored by heavily distorted guitars and Eddie Vedder’s deep, almost growled vocals, the album has a sort of density and heaviness to it that aligns well with the lyrical content. Pearl Jam has a very distinct sound that has almost become its own cliché, but this album holds up really well as an example of an important point in the evolution of rock music. Everything comes together and the sound is earnest, emotional, and effective.
