COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Cute but getting dated submitted by willow on July 14, 2016, 9:02pm This series is generally decent -- it provides a look into life in each country by showing the daily activities of a child in a rural area and one who lives in an urban center. This episode shows a fifth grade girl who lives on a farm with her parents and younger brother, and a preschooler in Rio de Janeiro who lives with his parents and older brother and spends time with his grandparents. It shows what their schools are like, what they eat, and what their parents do, as well as the running of the household -- in this episode, with significant domestic help for the households, each with two working parents. They also provide a minimal amount of information about the country. The narration is done as a voice over by an American kid, not by the child shown. In this case, Brian Whong struggles through the words "Portugal" and "Portuguese," which at one point were said about five times in short succession!

The girl references dancing to a Spice Girls song and the computers and video games shown are very dated. I think the dad even has a rotary phone on his desk!
