COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Knockout. submitted by breaking_glass on June 9, 2011, 10:33am I read the play first and ended up with a completely different take on Blanche after watching the film. Reading the play, I disliked Blanche and thought she was a self-centered, silly, manipulative woman that deserved everything she got. Vivien Leigh's performance as Blanche made me look at her character in a whole new light. I pitied her, had sympathy for her - which was something I did not expect. Jessica Tandy was the "original" Blanche in the stage version of Streetcar, and was the only cast member not cast in the film version. (This is discussed in the special features on the second disc, a good reason to check out this special edition). While I loved Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando steals the show. It's hard for me to wrap my mind around that this Marlon Brando is the same man from The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. So if you're a fan, young Marlon is literally covered in sweat, water, or alcohol (or all three) throughout most of the film. Fake New Orleans never looked so hot.

Great submitted by 0liviap0pp on August 22, 2011, 7:27am An amazing film!

Dark but good submitted by gardenfaerie on July 23, 2017, 9:28am This is one of those movies you grow up hearing about ("Stelllla!") but I had never seen it or known what it was about. It was a lot darker than I imagined, but it's worthwhile seeing. (I love film noir which I find dark in an intriguing way, but this was dark in a sad way.)
