Good Bro(ish) Country submitted by Meginator on August 23, 2020, 6:39pm Little Big Town manages an interesting feat here, creating what is essentially bro country without the genre’s less charming tendencies and with female vocalists and perspectives. This is a welcome change of pace, though after listening to the album I can’t shake the feeling that the quartet is settling for something far less than their talent deserves. With its infectious energy and lively bluegrass banjo accents, “Pavement Ends” seems to be a statement of intent, yet it gives way immediately to the laid-back “Pontoon” and a series of tracks that are perfectly good but never quite great. The overall vibe is relatively consistent, with its nods to folk and older country vocal styles, but while it’s difficult to find anything to complain about, nothing really stood out to me, either. Overall I’d say that this album is on the good side of middle of the road, and I can certainly see how the group has such wide and lasting appeal; I just wish they were a little more interesting.
