REVIEWS & SUMMARIES
Fiction ProfileCOMMUNITY REVIEWS
Yellowface all over the place submitted by willow on August 15, 2015, 9:54pm Paul Muni plays Wang Ling the farmer, Luise Rainer plays O-Lan, and Tilly Losch plays Lotus. Anna May Wong had been cast as O-Lan but anti-miscengenation laws in the Hays Code made an interracial kiss unacceptable. Ranier had limited racializing makeup, but Muni had taped eyelids, behaves like a buffoon, and speaks gibberish that is supposed to be Chinese.
