COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Simply Brilliant submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 8:49pm Miles Davis’s inimitable wailing trumpet forms the backbone of these classic jazz tracks, brilliantly evoking emotion at every turn with ease. The style is expressive and innovate but still accessible, not quite the cool sound of “Birth of the Cool” but not too far removed from it either. And beyond Davis, the talent level of this quintet is absolutely off the charts, as the album also features John Coltrane and Paul Chambers. It’s a classic for a good reason, like pretty much everything Davis recorded, and it’s also a good starting point for newcomers interested in the development of modern jazz in the middle of the 20th century.
