Not a comedy submitted by lilpup on July 11, 2012, 11:49pm Although this film is classed as a comedy both here and in other databases it IS NOT a comedy. The Mel Brooks-ian imagery seems to have led some astray.
SO not a comedy submitted by crazypockets on July 24, 2013, 6:06pm I agree with lilpup. This is most definitely a drama and not a comedy. It's about the tragic unraveling of a man's mind. It's actually really hard to watch in parts. That being said, it is interesting in the context of the history and of how much his madness probably contributed to the success of the American revolution.
Fascinating submitted by LRHarbison1 on September 27, 2016, 5:48am This is based on a brilliant play by the great English dramatist Alan Bennett, with superb performances by Helen Mirren as Queen Charlotte and, especially, the late Nigel Hawthorne as King George III, who went bonkers midway through his long reign due to a rare disease called Porphyry, undiagnosed at the time. Why anyone would think it's a comedy is beyond me. It's a fascinating look at a monarch thought of in America as a bad guy because he was King of England during our revolution and chiefly remembered in England because of his madness and the political instability it caused.
Interesting at first, grows really repetitive soon. submitted by Tassos on December 22, 2019, 10:01am Worth watching anyway, but don't expect this big deal. ALL Plays suffer when transferred to the screen, BTW.
