Amazing Reader submitted by pk on July 6, 2011, 2:51pm This entry in the Little House series is one of the darkest. The Wilder family is snowed in - very little fuel, very little food because the train cannot get through. They make fuel from twists of hay since the wood has run out. They go to bed early to conserve fuel. They eat very little. Blizzard after blizzard pounds their little house. And though it sounds dark and depressing, Laura Ingalls Wilder keeps us interested, and Cherry Jones once again does an excellent performance as reader of this audiobook.

Great! submitted by Margaretta on July 27, 2011, 4:38pm I love this book!

a long winter drive submitted by kyledavey on August 23, 2018, 4:27pm Listened to this during my commute during the winter and realized Michigan winters are not that bad. Fascinating to see how they could go through such hard times, yet be so supportive to each other as a family. It also contains an early introduction to Laura's future husband.

Classic submitted by TLW1998 on June 23, 2022, 11:32pm One of the best books that I have ever read. Laura has a charming way of writing. She is a great story teller, and her stories really paint a picture of what it was like to live as an early American pioneer. My 5-6 year old daughter and I loved reading the entire Little House series together. The books are very enjoyable and educational too. I highly recommend reading the entire collection. This book focuses on Laura's life in SD. Hear it on CD.
