A lion and zebra and two other of their pampered friends, from New York's Central Park Zoo, accidentally find themselves on a ship heading for Africa. When their vessel is hijacked, they become shipwrecked on the exotic island of Madagascar where they discover it really is a jungle out there!

Fun movie, better short submitted by pk on July 10, 2012, 3:44pm Madagascar is a perfectly fun movie for the family. Several laugh out loud spots. The penguins nearly steal the movie in their relatively short on screen time. Not the best of the best, but well worth your 86 minutes. At one point in the movie, Alex (lion) has to leave his friends so he won't be tempted to eat them - beware if any very young ones are especially worried about being alone or lost.

But the short, "The penguins in a Christmas caper" is a classic. The private goes out on xmas eve to get a present for a lonely polar bear at the zoo. He gets "purchased" as a dog toy by the nasty old lady for her even nastier lap dog, Mr. Chew. It's up to the other penguins to rescue him before he becomes another chew toy! Get this DVD if for no other reason than this short.
