A Little Experimental submitted by Meginator on July 2, 2023, 11:15am If it wasn’t for Joni Mitchell’s unmistakable voice, you might not know that this is one of her albums. The musical style still feels true to her songwriting, especially with the lyrical content, but the music draws on influences from unexpected quarters (particularly jazz). As with most of Mitchell’s music, the songs really open themselves up upon repeated listening even though they also make strong first impressions. I enjoyed hearing a talented artist stretch herself in unexpected ways while still remaining true to the core of her style, and this is a nice hidden gem in her discography.
