COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Classic Jamaican Ska submitted by Meginator on June 22, 2020, 12:25pm This compilation is full of excellent music, to be sure, but much of it falls on the reggae side of the Jamaican music spectrum, making it better suited to listeners already familiar with the genre than anyone trying to learn about ska. The songs are well-chosen and do have the textbook syncopated rhythms, often using them in different ways for some variety between tracks. The song selection skews older, toward classic artists such as Byron Lee and Toots & the Maytals, making this good listening to fans of ska’s rocksteady roots.
