The music itself always has a laid-back feeling to it; no one is in a rush to get anywhere, let alone to the chorus or the next verse. The emerging emphasis on the offbeat is what starts to set the music apart from its genre(s) of origin and eventually comes to define the rhythmically unique base from which ska springs. This is a great resource for fans of ska and anyone who is interested in how genres of music develop and change over time; it’s also built on laid-back grooves that just feel good to listen to.
