COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Oh my goodness, it was raw and juicy submitted by ccrose on August 15, 2019, 9:02pm Somewhere in the late 60’s, white kids started to ‘discover’ old style black musicians like Furry Lewis and Bukha White. And it didn’t take long for producers to start pushing the white tough rockers to imagine playing with these guys. Rolling Stones approached Waters and they played some concerts, Muddy Waters on an acoustic guitar. But he got an offer he couldn’t refuse: here, do your stuff on an electric. So listen to this album please because the man must have realized he was gonna get rich. I love the album because the Stones are backing him and their hard playing pushes Waters to get down and growl like he meant it. Listen to Let’s Spend the Night Together. Wow. I saw some reviewer say this was the most
ill-conceived idea but he must have just had bad headphones.

Like a Fish out of Muddy Waters submitted by KidBlue on May 25, 2022, 11:16am First of all, the Rolling Stones are not backing Muddy Waters. They do not appear on the album.
Second of all, the title of the album is misleading, as Muddy Waters had been recording electric music since his first recordings on Chess Records in 1947.
And thirdly, here the great Chicago blues man is not doing Chicago blues, but a kind of second rate bluesy psychedelic rock. This was a deliberate attempt to reach white listeners, and to increase Muddy’s sagging sales.
To one who knows the great Chicago blues of Muddy Waters, this is an abomination.
